Radical Democracy
While emissions keep on rising, party-politics are failing us in addressing the climate- and ecological crises and other systemic struggles. It is time for radical system change. And our mainstream political, economic and social structures do not seem to facilitate that. New democratic cultures are already emerging and we can engage in more inclusive and regenerative democratic practices.
During this event, on May 16th, from 15;00 till 17:30, we’ll explore how we can co-create and foster radical democratic cultures that facilitate the system change we need. After an inspirational introduction we’ll bring democracy in practice. In a deliberative ‘People Assembly’ we’ll address the questions:
A) What do you find important in fostering radical democratic cultures?
B) What is needed to foster these radical democratic cultures and what can we learn from them?
C) What could you and/or the climate movement do in order to foster these radical democratic cultures?
Radical Democracy is hosted by Extinction Rebellion NL. Extinction Rebellion (XR) is a grassroots climate justice movement. XR was founded in the UK in 2018 and since then has grown to over a thousand local groups in more than seventy countries. Through the use of civil disobedience XR moves the needle in the public debate on the climate and ecological crisis. XR also uses prefigurative politics to build regenerative and democratic cultures.
Everyone is welcome to participate in our Assembly on democracy. No reading is needed beforehand.
