Future City Economy, part 7: Energy Democracy - Power to the People
The energy landscape is changing rapidly. The climate transition is pushing our thinking about energy democracy and energy cooperatives are growing in numbers. In energy democracy, local governments are working together with energy cooperatives, unions, private companies and civil society organisations. The municipality of Amsterdam is also trying to facilitate more democratic participation, like citizen forums and panels, also to harness the collective knowledge and power. The energy transition is a big challence in which government and society need eachother. How can we design this in a democratic way? How can civil society groups and the municipality empower eachother?
