Future City Economy, part 8: Community Wealth Building in De Banne, Venserpolder and the Wildemanbuurt
In this programme we look at practical experiences with the concept of Community Wealth Building. This method is used to boost local economies in a way that is democratic and inclusive, making sure that the people who live in the area feel empowered and that any local progress benefits the people that actually live there and need it the most. Is this combination of democratising and economic policy a promising approach for other neighbourhoods as well?

The 99 of Amsterdam has been working on this concept, Community Wealth Building, for half a year, with groups in the Wildemanbuurt, De Banne and Venserpolder. Together with these groups, they have been exploring ways to come up with an alternative vision on the democratic neighbourhood economy, promoting social values. During this event, these three groups will present their findings and share with why they think a democratic economy is important for their neighbourhood.

During this evening we will also look at Preston (UK), which plays a pioneering role in Community Wealth Building. What can we learn from them? City borrough chief Dirk de Jager will join us to talk about applying the lessons from this programme in other neighbourhoods as well.

Massih Hutak, muzikant en schrijver uit Amsterdam-Noord. Hij is onderdeel van de bewonersorganisatie Verdedig Noord die strijdt voor een inclusieve stedelijke ontwikkeling waar welzijn en welvaart wordt georganiseerd voor iedereen.
Terra Dakota Stein, geboren en getogen Noorderling met Ghanese en Surinaamse roots, jurist van beroep met eigen consultancy - Dakota Consultancy, locatiehoofd Huis van de Wijk en coördinator Verdedig Noord.
Samira Hoogvliets, geboren en getogen Noorderling. Daarnaast is zij student Culturele en Maatschappelijke Vorming en sinds kort ook sociaal-maatschappelijk ondernemer. Verder is ze bezig met het opzetten van een podcast voor en door jongeren uit Amsterdam Noord.
